Shadow of Fire

Shinya Tsukamoto, 2023 (96m)

Shadow of Fire

In the aftermath of World War II, three lost souls meet in a derelict ramen shop. When a violent outburst fractures the fragile family unit, the youngest of the three - a young orphan boy - flees. He embarks on a dangerous road trip with a traumatised travelling vendor, and becomes unwittingly embroiled in the older man’s plans to exact revenge on the person who ruined his life. Shinya Tsukamoto’s vital new film completes a loose thematic trilogy - alongside previous JFF titles Fires On the Plain and Killing - of films linked by their haunting portrayals of war and violence.
