Rewrite

High school student Miyuki falls for new transfer student Yasuhiko. Yasuhiko isn’t your typical teenager, however - he’s actually time travelled from 300 years in the future. Miyuki and Yasuhiko spend a romantic summer together before Yasuhiko abruptly returns to the future. A heartbroken Miyuki is briefly visited by her future self, who encourages her to write a novel about her unusual romance. A decade later, Miyuki - now a successful author - prepares for the day when she will finally encounter her younger self. However, when that pivotal event doesn’t occur as expected, she suspects something is awry. It turns out Yasuhiko’s summer ten years ago was a lot more eventful and complicated than he ever let on... Director Daigo Matsui (Just Remembering, JFF 24) and writer Makoto Ueda (Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes) have crafted a wonderfully unpredictable time travel comedy. Based on a novel by Haruka Hôjô, Rewrite also serves as a loving tribute to the 1984 time loop classic The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and its late director Nobuhiko Obayashi (Hausu).
