Tokyo taxi driver Koji works long hours as he tries to make ends meet for his family. One day, he picks up a passenger - the elderly Takano Sumire - who is moving to a nursing home outside the city. Before the drive to her new home, Takano asks Koji to take her on a tour of some of her favourite spots in Tokyo. Along the way, the pair share their life stories - including about Takano’s extraordinary yet dark past. This remake of the French comedy-drama Driving Madeleine sees veteran filmmaker Yoji Yamada (director of films such as The Twilight Samurai, Kabei: Our Mother and the long-running Tora-san series) return with a charming, warm-hearted study of an unlikely friendship.
